What is the JCCM?

The Jewish Chaplaincy Council of Massachusetts (JCCM) is a non-profit agency that hires trained, professional Jewish chaplains to provide spiritual care primarily to Jews in a variety of settings throughout Massachusetts.  With funding from the Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP), health care institutions and charitable donations, JCCM chaplains provide

  • chaplaincy services in acute, chronic and rehabilitation hospitals  in eastern Massachusetts
  • visits to Jewish residents in elder care facilities
  • home visits on a limited basis

What do the JCCM Chaplains do?

  • JCCM chaplains provide spiritual care services, including bedside visits and Shabbat and holiday programming, to those whose physical situations present them with spiritual challenges
  • JCCM chaplains educate and help institutional staff and volunteers to be sensitive to the needs of Jewish patients
  • JCCM chaplains support families and caregivers
  • JCCM chaplains advocate on behalf of Jewish hospital patients, nursing home residents and family members

JCCM chaplains respond to referrals from congregational rabbis and other community members to serve Jews in a variety of settings, including at home.
